Senior England players have backed Eddie Jones to turn things around and get the side back on track ahead of next year’s World Cup.
Jones’ men slumped to a disappointing Six Nations this year, winning just two of their five matches for the second tournament in a row.
The RFU, however, have given their support to Jones and insisted they will stick by him ahead of next year’s World Cup in France.
Jones has also received the backing of his players, with senior squad members believing he is still the right man to lead them forwards.
“He’s absolutely the right man for the job,” said hooker Jamie George.
“He gives the players confidence we can go out and do it. He’s been brilliant to all of the players so far and we’ve all got every confidence we can turn this around.
“The pressure shouldn’t solely lie on Eddie. The players have to take some responsibility on the back of a disappointing campaign.”
Courtney Lawes, who captained England for much of the Six Nations in the absence of Owen Farrell, echoed that sentiment when asked if the squad back Jones.
“Yeah, of course,” he said. “We understand where we are going as a team – clearly, we haven’t got there yet, but there is still time.
“Like I said, we are going to do everything we can to learn the lessons we need to win game like that, win games that we have lost this Six Nations and come back a better team.”
Scrum-half Ben Youngs, who became England’s most-capped player this year, also showed support for Jones and urged the RFU not to panic.
“The results haven’t been what we’ve liked, but from the autumn and all that there is enough to show where we need to be,” he said. “There’s definitely no need to panic.”
