Connor O'Neill - Wilson gets the nod over Toney
Jordan Pickford is England’s No.1, so he is a given to be included in Gareth Southgate’s squad. The Everton man is likely to be supported by Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale, with both having played for England over the past year.
Defence is where things start to get tricky. So, let's start with the obvious ones. Kyle Walker, John Stones, Eric Dier, Kieran Trippier, Luke Shaw and Ben White are all set to be included. I would also take Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Coady, and pick James Tarkowski over Harry Maguire.
The fact the Manchester United man was brought on as an emergency centre-forward in his side’s Europa League clash last week shows how far he has fallen. If he is picked then it will be on reputation rather than anything else.

In midfield, again, let's start with the obvious ones. Mason Mount, Declan Rice, Jordan Henderson and Jude Bellingham will all be included. Kalvin Phillips is also expected to be on the plane, even though he has spent most of the season on the sidelines.
The big issue for Southgate is whether or not he takes James Maddision. Despite his impressive displays, he only has one cap to his name and it feels like Southgate hasn’t forgiven the Leicester City man for going to a casino after being released from England duty on account of illness.
But having watched Maddison run the show at Goodison Park at the weekend, if it is a choice between him, James Ward-Prowse or Conor Gallagher, then the Leicester man would get my vote. He’s box office and England needs box office players capable of turning a game on its head.
Up front, Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling, Tammy Abraham, Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden are all nailed on to be on the plane to Qatar. All the talk is about who will go as the additional forward, in support of Kane and Abraham.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin seems to be out of the race after his recent injury against Leicester, leaving Ivan Toney and Callum Wilson to battle it out. Wilson couldn’t have done anymore in terms of goals in recent weeks, and for that reason I would go with the Newcastle United man over Toney.

All of the debate is almost over as Gareth Southgate's England squad for the World Cup will soon be revealed and there are bound to be inclusions and omissions that are hard to agree with.
After reaching the semi-final in the last World Cup and losing to Italy in a penalty shootout to win their first Euros, can England go one better this time around in Qatar?
Here is the squad I think Southgate will go with...

Reds legend Carragher has already revealed the 26 stars he would select for England this winter.
He takes Alexander-Arnold, along with Liverpool captain Henderson. Up front, however, there is no room for Wilson.
