England's World Cup squad announcement: When does Thomas Tuchel reveal his 26-man team?

England manager Thomas Tuchel speaks to the media during a press conference at Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre.

We are now just one month away from the start of the 2026 World Cup, and England fans are eager to find out who will make Thomas Tuchel's squad for the tournament.

The Three Lions qualified for this summer's World Cup with a flawless record of eight wins from eight games.

After going close in 2018 and making it to the past two European Championship finals, England are among the favourites for the tournament in the United States.

England World Cup squad announcement incoming

Obviously, there are a handful of players who are almost certain to be in Thomas Tuchel's 26-man squad for the World Cup.

There were a few surprise inclusions in Tuchel's most recent England squad for the friendlies against Uruguay and Japan. But when will a final decision be made?

As per FIFA's rules, England must name a 55-man provisional squad by Monday, May 11. Tuchel can name less than 55 players at that point if he so chooses.

Tuchel must then submit his final 26-man squad no later than Saturday, May 30. England's first World Cup game, against Croatia, takes place on June 17.

In addition to his 26-man team, Tuchel can take another nine players to the United States with his squad to take part in training. Those players will be on hold as potential replacements in case of any injuries prior to that opening fixture.

Tuchel may be one of the best managers in the world right now, but he's got some difficult decisions to make to narrow down his options ahead of the World Cup.

There are just a handful of games left this season for players to impress Tuchel and force their way into his thinking, and also for key players to avoid picking up any injuries before the England squad is announced.

The likes of Jordan Pickford, Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi, Declan Rice, Elliot Anderson, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Harry Kane seem to be nailed on for a spot in the team.

It's very likely that Ezri Konsa, John Stones, Eberechi Eze, Morgan Rogers, and Marcus Rashford will have done enough to book their place on the plane, but the rest of the squad is very much up for debate.

England's next two games are against New Zealand and Costa Rica on June 6 and June 10 respectively. They are the final friendlies before the World Cup begins.
