England's full squad for third Ashes Test vs Australia after Ollie Pope injury

Ollie Pope will play no further part in the Ashes after the England batsman picked up a shoulder injury in the second Test defeat to Australia. The Surrey star has been ruled out of the remainder of the summer campaign after dislocating his right shoulder at Lord's.

Scans revealed the full extent of the injury and Pope will now require surgery. England have not called up a replacement for the third Test, which starts at Headingley on Thursday, with Dan Lawrence the most likely replacement for Pope in the starting XI.

A statement released by the ECB confirmed: “England and Surrey batter Ollie Pope has been ruled out of the rest of the LV= Insurance Men’s Ashes Series after dislocating his right shoulder during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s last week.

“Scans in London on Monday revealed the full extent of the injury and he will miss the rest of the summer campaign and will require surgery.

“He will work closely with the England and Surrey medical teams in respect of his rehabilitation. England will not call up a replacement for the third Ashes Test, which starts at Headingley on Thursday.”

England go into the match needing to win to keep their slim hopes of regaining the Ashes on home soil alive, reports the Mirror. Australia's win at Lord's was marred by the controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow - with Aussie wicketkeeper Alex Carey stumping his opposite number when the Yorkshire star assumed the ball was dead.

England now have a 14-player squad to pick from, with Reham Ahmed and Matthew Potts dropping out after Lord’s. Ahmed's exclusion means Moeen Ali is England's only spin option at Headingley, while the dropping of Potts suggests Mark Wood or Chris Woakes will come into the XI.

England are almost certain to rotate their attack to manage the workload of Jimmy Anderson, Stuart Broad and Ollie Robinson.

England squad for third Ashes Test: Ben Stokes (captain), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Dan Lawrence, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
