UEFA are set to name the UK and the Republic of Ireland as joint hosts for Euro 2028, with no other bidders in the pipeline. If successful, it will be the first time the European Championships have been staged exclusively on the British Isles since 1996.
That summer is fondly remembered by England fans, as Terry Venables side reached the semi-finals and "Three Lions" - perhaps the most famous football pop song of all time - was released by David Baddiel, Frank Skinner and the Lightning Seeds.
But what are England's Class of '96 getting up to these days? Here, Mirror Football takes a look at their respective careers since they hung up their boots - including a shock contestant on The Masked Singer and a well-known pundit.
Football for life
Who is England's greatest international football? Let us know in the comments below!
Six members of Venables' squad currently have coaching roles in the game, including incumbent England boss Gareth Southgate . The ex-defender's managerial career has gone from strength to strength after being sacked by Middlesbrough in 2009.
Southgate became England U21 manager in 2013, getting the senior job in 2016 and guiding the Three Lions to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2018, a third-place finish in the Nations League in 2019 and the final of Euro 2020 last summer. The next logical step is victory at this year's World cup in Qatar, right?
Paul Ince is also a manager, although his job isn't quite as glamorous. The ex-midfielder is in charge of Reading, who are hovering just above the Championship relegation zone. He's previously led Macclesfield, MK Dons, Blackburn, Notts County and Blackpool.
Another boss is Phil Neville , who's currently in charge of David Beckham's MLS franchise Inter Miami after a three-year spell in charge of England Women. The jury is still out on Neville's coaching ability, although his team have picked up seven points from their first three MLS games this term.
Elsewhere, former England U21 boss Stuart Pearce is now West Ham's assistant manager, while Steve Stone is in charge of Burnley's U23s. And Les Ferdinand is QPR's director of football, assuming the role in 2015 after a coaching position at Tottenham.
A special mention for Tim Flowers , who left his role as Stratford Town's manager earlier this month. The former Blackburn goalkeeper has also coached several non-league sides - including Solihull Moors, Macclesfield and Barnet.
Always on the telly
Most of England's Euro '96 squad would've done TV punditry at some point, yet there are five members who are regulars on the box. The most prominent is Gary Neville , who's constantly pointing out Man Utd's shortcomings on Sky Sports for our entertainment.
Neville works alongside Jamie Redknapp , who's been a pundit on Sky Sports for more than 15 years after his playing career was cut short by injury. Redknapp has also been a team captain on sports gameshow A League of Their Own for more than a decade.
Over at the BBC, Alan Shearer has succeeded Alan Hansen as Match of the Day's most prominent pundit. Steve McManaman , meanwhile, is BT Sport's main co-commentator.
And Steve Howey is a regular figure in the media, doing in-house work for the Premier League and punditry for BBC Radio Newcastle. Like many retired footballers, Howey is also a regular on the after-dinners circuit. Who doesn't love a good tale from an ex-pro?
Singers and dancers
David Seaman has done lots of bits and bobs since his retirement - including a brief coaching role at Arsenal last year - but is perhaps best defined by his stint on Dancing on Ice. The ex-stopper went on to marry his partner on the show, Franke Poultney.
Teddy Sheringham had managerial stints at Stevenage and Indian outfit ATK, yet singing is his real talent. The ex-striker competed on the Masked Singer in 2020, dressing as a tree. He came ninth on the show, above professional singer Justin Hawkins!
And let's not forget Paul Gascoigne , England's talisman at Euro '96. He appeared on the Italian version of I'm A Celeb - "L'Isola dei Famosi" - but was forced to walk after suffering a shoulder injury. Gazza admitted he was considering doing the UK version last June.
Other projects
Darren Anderton is believed to be residing in California and often acts as an ambassador for Tottenham, while David Platt launched his own management consultancy firm after a 17-year career in coaching - helping Manchester City win the title in 2012.
Tony Adams has significant coaching experience but is best known - bar his success at Arsenal - for establishing the Sporting Chance clinic in 2000, helping individuals overcome addiction. The ex-defender is also Rugby League's UK president.
Sol Campbell has managed Macclesfield and Southend in the EFL, yet he's also sought a career in politics. The ex-defender was in favour of Brexit and even confirmed his intention to run for Mayor of London as the Tory candidate. He wasn't shortlisted.
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler , who is a columnist for Mirror Football, has coached in Thailand, Australia and India, while Ian Walker has worked as a goalkeeper coach and Nick Barmby was manager of Hull between 2011 and 2012.
Last but not least, Terry Venables is enjoying retirement after selling his hotel and restaurant in Spain. Venables had many business ventures during his career, releasing several novels and co-creating the ITV detective series Hazell. A man of many talents!
