England Injury Crisis: The Stars Who Will Miss November's Games

The England injury crisis shows no signs of slowing with a plethora of stars having already pulled out of the latest squad.

Ahead of the final two UEFA Nations League games, Three Lions interim boss Lee Carsley has already named a series of replacements for his crocked players.

Morgan Rogers is arguably the biggest call-up. Many Aston Villa fans felt their young starlet was deserving of a spot in the original team.

The 22-year-old is likely to earn his first senior cap against either Greece or Ireland. James Trafford, Jarrad Branthwaite, Tino Livramento and Jarrod Bowen are also included.

With the Euro 2024 runners-up being plagued by casualties, we decided to look at every major nation’s absentees from across the continent. Prior to the action getting underway on Thursday.

Naturally, we will start with the England injury list which has engulfed the squad. Will Carsley’s side pick up the two wins needed to secure promotion to League A? Only time will tell.

England Injury Crisis Doesn’t Bode Well For Lee Carsley

You’d do well to remember the last time an England injury crisis rivalled the current one Lee Carsley is experiencing. Hardly the ideal preparation before he gets set to end his interim spell in charge of the senior side.

As it stands, Carsley will be without EIGHT of his Three Lions stars. Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering a suspected fractured finger.

The Saints Premier League survival hopes will take a further blow after the shot-stopper suffered the injury in the recent 2-0 defeat to Wolves.

In defence, Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill‘s absence is just precautionary. However, the same can’t be said for Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold. He is set to miss two weeks with a hamstring problem.

Additionally, defensive midfielder and Arsenal star Declan Rice has also withdrawn. He will be monitored by the Gunners medical staff as he recovers from a broken toe.

Furthermore, attackers Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer will also miss the fixtures against Greece and Ireland. Saka suffered a knock late on at Stamford Bridge and was subbed off along with Rice.

Palmer was spotted limping down the touchline after the 1-1 draw with the Gunners. Subsequently, the 22-year-old could struggle for fitness when the domestic action returns.

Manchester City pair Jack Grealish and Phil Foden complete the England injury list. Cityzens boss Pep Guardiola was fuming that Grealish was originally called-up and Foden has been struggling with illness.

Lamine Yamal And Robert Lewandowski Injury Updates Ahead Of UEFA Nations League Fixtures

Spain and Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has withdrawn from Luis de la Fuente’s squad ahead of the fixtures against Denmark and Switzerland.

The 17-year-old missed Barca’s 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad after suffering a ‘severe contusion’ in the UEFA Champions League win against Crvena Zvezda. It has since been upgraded to a syndesmosis injury.

Club teammate and Poland striker Robert Lewandowski will miss the Portugal and Scotland games. The Pole’s record scorer injured his back in the defeat to Sociedad but did play the full 90 minutes.

Elsewhere, Switzerland confirmed on Monday that four players have dropped out of their squad for the fixtures against Serbia and Spain. Man City’s Manuel Akanji is the most notable absentee.

The 29-year-old defender is suffering from an adductor injury alongside Denis Zakaria. Furthermore, Dan Ndoye (lower leg) and Pascal Loretz (ankle) also bowed out.

Belgium will have to make do without another City star in the shape of Jeremy Doku. The Red Devils winger will miss key games against Italy and Israel owing to a muscle complaint.

Charles De Ketelaere, Joaquin Seys and Lyon’s Malick Fofana has also withdrawn. Nonetheless, manager Domenico Tedesco has called-up a quartet of replacements.

Roberto Martinez’s Portugal squad have faced a mini injury crises in the last few days. The latest crocked star is City’s Matheus Nunes. He has been deemed as ‘not medically fit.’

Other Notable Injury Withdrawals Across The Continent

Euro 2024 semi-finalists France will have to make do without Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana. The 23-year-old is struggling with a knee issue. Ousmane Dembele also withdraws owing to a hamstring problem.

On Sunday, Germany confirmed that Deniz Undav had been replaced by Leroy Sane. The former has not recovered in time from a thigh strain.

Manuel Locatelli has been drafted into Italy’s squad as a replacement for Samuele Ricci. The Torino star is carrying a knock and he will not be risked.

Closer to home, Scotland haven’t announced any injury withdrawals at the time of writing. Steve Clarke’s side are currently bottom of League A Group 1 ahead of their games against Croatia and Poland.

Wales announced that the trio of Owen Beck, Wes Burns and Kieffer Moore have all been ruled out. Jay da Silva, Charlie Savage and Luke Harris have been called-up as replacements.

Rangers winger Ross McCausland is the only injury concern for Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill. He is still in the squad but Crystal Palace midfielder Justin Devenny has earned his first senior call-up as a precaution.

For Ireland, Seamus Coleman, Shane Duffy and Adam Idah have all had to withdraw. Ryan Manning, Jake O’Brien and Matt Doherty will fill the void.

One thing that is evident is that no nation has endured a list of withdrawals to compare to the England injury list. Worryingly for Three Lions fans, there is still time for more star players to drop out.
