England hand international debut to rising star against Sri Lanka

  • Derbyshire batter Aneurin Donald will make his England T20 debut against Sri Lanka at the Utilita Bowl on Tuesday, partnering Jos Buttler at the top of the order.
  • The 29-year-old Welshman earned his international call-up following injuries to Phil Salt and Jacob Bethell after blistering domestic form, including hitting 37 sixes in this year's Vitality Blast.
  • Donald, who began his career at Glamorgan, becomes the Welsh county's first homegrown international cricketer since 2005 Ashes hero Simon Jones.
  • England head coach Brendon McCullum highlighted Donald's raw power and ability to attack from ball one, noting that the batter has been on their radar for a long time.
  • England's side will be captained by Harry Brook, with Jofra Archer rested for workload management as Jamie Overton, Sonny Baker, Josh Tongue, Liam Dawson, and Adil Rashid feature in the bowling attack.
