Saracens' Ian Peel remains England’s top choice for a long-term scrum coach.

Richard Cockerill will fill the role for the Six Nations, having stayed with England after Eddie Jones' sacking.

The former Leicester boss has held talks on a move to Montpellier in the summer however, as England’s revamp continues under new head coach Steve Borthwick.

Former Newcastle prop Peel has thrived at Saracens since joining the club in late 2015.

New England boss Borthwick has long been an admirer of Peel's coaching qualities, and could look to draft him in during the summer should Cockerill depart.

Peel is contracted at Saracens until the summer of 2025 though, leaving the RFU looking at a compensation package to prise him away from Barnet.

English chiefs meanwhile are facing ever increasing grassroots rebellion over tackle height law changes.

More than 200 clubs have joined forces to fight the waist-high tackle limit to be imposed in the summer.

The disaffected group is even exploring what's required to trigger a Special General Meeting via a no-confidence vote in the RFU board.
