One of Alex Greenwood's former teachers has opened up on what the England star was like when she was in school.
Clare Murphy-Worrell from Savio Salesian College in Bootle has described the ex-pupil as "unassuming" but extremely talented. Alex attended the school before going on to have a professional career playing for Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City, and is in the squad along with Arsenal forward Nikita Parris, from Toxteth.
The 28-year-old has accumulated 62 caps for the national side and will be hopeful of playing a role after coming off the bench a number of times throughout the Euros. Clare, 54, told the ECHO ahead of England's Euros final at Wembley this weekend: "I remember the first time I saw her play football.

"It was during a break time and she was on the field outside where they used to play and she was just running rings around all the lads. You just knew she had something. She was really quietly confident and she was a hard worker.
"She was just such a lovely person and people just respected her for who she was. I never heard of her getting grief because they just respected her talent and her ability."
Clare said Alex was also a regular visitor to her old school, which was also attended by Jamie Carragher. She added: "We've kept in touch with Alex throughout and she's come back to do presentations at school and things like that. When she comes she lights up the hall. She's so inspirational.
"She's just everything you would want in a role model for young children of Bootle. With each challenge she isn't scared to step outside her comfort zone.
"We're all so proud of her, even the teachers who didn't teach her. She's on the wall of fame at school, she's donated shirts to the school. Jamie Carragher also went to the school so sometimes they both come back and do activities. The children are so lucky."
