GP practices have been ordered to offer all patients an immediate “assessment of need” and will no longer be allowed to request that they call back another time.
NHS England has imposed the stipulation in a new contract of employment for family doctors after talks with the British Medical Association broke down.
It is also advising GPs to prescribe statins and exercise to a greater proportion of the population as “preventative measures”.
