Transformation plans have been put forward for a former Argos in a town blighted in recent years by shop closures. The old Argos off Holborn Place, Bulwell closed in 2020, as part of the company's plans to close a number of standalone shops across the UK.
Three years later another well known store has tabled plans to set up in the vacant unit, with the British Heart Foundation proposing to open a furniture shop. Local residents said the opening would be positive for the area, contrasting with a number of recent business closures, including Boots and NatWest.
Chris Townsend, 71, who is retired and from Rise Park, said: "The shopping areas are being taken over a bit by charity shops. But then we have a lot of closed shops.

"It's a fairly big space so I think a furniture shop probably makes sense. It will be good to get it back into use, they've done the roof up in the last couple of weeks as well."
There is already a British Heart Foundation shop on Main Street in Bulwell. A staff member confirmed this shop would not be relocating or closing as a result of the new opening.
Retired Margret Craven, 79, who lives in Rise Park, added: "I think it is a good idea. People are struggling so it will be well used.
"There's lots of parking too. This is better for Bulwell, it will be popular here I think."
Kerry Evans, 38, carer from Bestwood Village, said: "I think a charity shop is a good idea here as people are struggling with the cost of living. It will be really good for something new to open up here after Argos. "
The application site is within the Bulwell Conservation Area and fronts onto Holborn Place Car Park, which has 80 parking spaces and is owned by Nottingham City Council. The planning application for British Heart Foundation's signage and branding is pending consideration by Nottingham City Council.
