Employers should offer pet owners compassionate leave after a dog dies, charity says

A leading animal charity believe pet owners should be entitled to take compassionate leave after losing a pet.

Dogs Trust Ireland launched its “Not Just a Dog” campaign as part of an appeal to employers to consider offering staff a paid day’s leave after losing a pet. A survey was also conducted to examine how pet owners dealt with the loss of a furry friend.

Dogs Trust’s executive director Becky Bristow confirmed that the organisation has a policy in place for its employees following the bereavement of a pet.
