The budget of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) for the financial year gives major emphasis on setting up a Translation Research Centre in the university.
The centre will be set up at the university headquarters at Pookode by utilising an amount of ₹20 crore allocated to the varsity in the State Budget.
The varsity’s deficit budget, which envisages an expenditure of ₹264.34 crore and an income of ₹191.08 crore, was presented by Vice Chancellor Dr. M.R. Saseendranath .
Three courses, including a new short term and two P.G Courses in project mode, would be started on the varsity campus. The budget proposed to start a certificate course in veterinary nursing of one-year duration with 10 students per batch.
It was also proposed to establish a hostel for international research students visiting the university.
Dr. Saseendranath told The Hindu after presenting the budget that the varsity had submitted five projects to the Kerala State Higher Education Council for approval and funding which includes the Centre of Excellence in Dairy and Food Technology at Varghese Kurian Institute of Dairy and Food Technology, Mannuthy; Western Ghats Regional Institute for Wild Life Research and Tribal Welfare; Centre of Excellence in Climate, and Smart Livestock Production; Centre of Excellence in Meat Science and Technology; and Centre of Excellence in One Health Kerala.
The government had agreed to transfer four acres to the varsity at Koyilandy for setting up a new campus. It would act as a regional centre with residential facility for MVSc, MSc and PhD researchers.
The varsity would launch a programme, Livelihood Enhancement of Wayanad Tribal Colonies through Need-Based Package of Inputs with the help of ICAR .
It was proposed to launch the ‘SAMANUAYAM Centre’, an entrepreneurship and training collaboration of KVASU and Animal Husbandry Department, for farmers.
Measures would be taken to boost the revenue of the university by increasing production of farm products and value-added products.
