Emotional moment The Script open Pink concert with tribute to late guitarist Mark Sheehan at University of Bolton Stadium

Video footage has captured the emotional moment The Script dedicated a song to their late guitarist Mark Sheehan at the Pink concert in Bolton.

The band were opening for the 'So What' superstar at the University of Bolton stadium on Wednesday evening (June 7) when they performed 'If You Could See Me Now'.

Singer Danny O’Donoghue and drummer Glen Power, who first formed the band with Mark in 2001, walked to the front of the stage as they paid tribute to him following his death in April.

They came on stage singing Superheroes to a crowd of over 30,000 roaring fans, then went into Rain, Man Who Can’t Be Moved and Paint the Town Green.

An emotional Danny announced they would be dedicating If You Could See Me Now to the late Mark, and 'his family, the Script family and all the fans'.

He added: "We need you guys more than ever. Thank you so much for all the words of support and prayers."

They went on to say the crowd was the 'best Bolton audience they have ever played for' and promised fans they were 'in for quite the night' after watching Pink's dress rehearsal.

Mark, a guitarist with the Irish pop band, died in hospital aged 46 on April 14 after a brief illness. Following his death, the band said in a statement: “Much loved husband, father, brother, bandmate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.”

The Script are the support act for Pink, who has kicked off the European leg of her Summer Carnival tour with two huge gigs in Bolton, at the University of Bolton stadium.

It is the first time the 'What About Us' hitmaker has performed in the UK since 2019’s sold out Beautiful Trauma World Tour. She will also perform five more dates in the UK at cities including Sunderland, Birmingham and London.

Concert-goers were pre-warned plan their journeys in advance as almost 70,000 fans are expected to head to the stadium over the two nights.
