Emotional Ke Huy Quan hugs Harrison Ford at Oscars nearly 40 years after Indiana Jones

Ke Huy Quan had an emotional reunion with Indiana Jones co-star Harrison Ford at the 2023 Oscars.

The 80-year-old actor was presenting the Best Picture award, which was won by Everything Everywhere All at Once and stars Quan as Waymond Wang.

Quan also took home an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the American absurdist comedy-drama, which scooped a staggering seven gongs on Sunday night.

The 51-year-old actor immediately ran up on stage and got a big hug from Ford, 80, with the smiling duo laughing with each other before exiting the stage.

The emotional moment mimicked a scene in 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, when Ford hugged a then 12-year-old Quan, who played his sidekick Short Round.

Speaking about Quan ahead of the award ceremony, Ford said: "I'm so happy for him. He’s a great guy. He's a wonderful actor. He was when he was a little kid, and he still is. I’m glad. I’m very happy for him."

Following Indiana Jones, Quan starred in cult classic The Goonies, It Takes a Thief, Passenger, Breathing Fire, Red Pirate, and Second Time Around.

More recently, he played George Phan in Finding O'hana, Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All at Once, and is set to star in The Electric State next year.

The actor received a standing ovation as he took to the stage for Best Supporting Actor, saying: "My mom is 84 years old and she is at home watching. Ma I just won an Oscar!"

"My journey started on a boat. I spent a year in a refugee camp and somehow I ended up here on Hollywood’s biggest stage.

"They say stories like this only happen in the movies. I cannot believe this is happening to me – this is the American dream.

"Thank you so much to the academy for the honour of a lifetime."

The actor wasn't the only Everything Everywhere All at Once star taking home an award at the ceremony, with Jamie Lee Curtis winning the award for Best Supporting Actress.

She paid tribute to her loved ones and said the Oscar was for all of them, shouting: "We just won an Oscar!"

She said: "I know it looks like I am standing up here on my own but I am not. There are hundreds of people and hundreds of people.

"To my family, my beautiful husband, Christopher Guest, my daughters, Annie and Ruby, my sister Kelly – we just won an Oscar.

"To all of the people who have supported the genre movie’s that I have made for hundreds and hundreds of thousands, we just won an Oscar together."

Looking upwards, she added: "And my mother and father were both nominated for Oscars in different categories, I just won an Oscar."

Jamie Lee, who has enjoyed a career spanning almost 50 years, is the daughter of Hollywood icons Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis.
