The 2024 Emmy Awards celebrated television creators and actors who dare to do things differently. The new version of 'Shogun' made history, closing the night with a record-breaking 18 awards, the most for any production in a single season.
'The Bear' followed as the second most-awarded show with 11 Emmys, surpassing the 10 it received last year. Latino actors in both series were among this year's winners. Cuban-American actor Nestor Carbonell took home the award for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series, while Liza Colón-Zayas won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in 'The Bear.'
In fact, Colón-Zayas was the only Latina to take home an Emmy this year. Selena Gomez lost the Best Actress in a Comedy Series award to Jean Smart.
Sofía Vergara also fell short of becoming the first Latina to win the Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a Limited Series for her role in 'Griselda.' The award went to Jodie Foster for her performance in 'True Detective 4.' Although Mexican director Isa López didn't win, Foster's recognition might have softened the loss.
Mexican actress Nava Mau also went home empty-handed, but her series 'Baby Reindeer' had a big night, so she still has plenty to celebrate.
