Emmerdale star reveals 'raunchy' sex scene was banned from show as cast 'went for it'

Emmerdale 's Emma Atkins and Lawrence Robb have revealed a sex scene they filmed for the ITV soap wasn't allowed to be shown pre-watershed as it was too raunchy.

The cast members, who play couple Charity Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd, were filming a scene where the pair got steamy in the back of a van.

But the scene did not pass compliance for a pre-watershed TV show, and was not allowed to be shown on screen.

Instead, the scene had to be re-filmed with a different angle and with the camera further away so that less was seen.

While neither character was shown in the shot, the scene saw the pair getting it on in a van - with the van rocking heavily.

But after the scene was filmed, the director told the cast members that it was banned from the episode due to the early air time.

Speaking on Loose Women on Thursday, Emma and Lawrence were asked about the "raunchy" scene by panellist Denise Welch.

The pair then confessed they and the van owner were asked to jump around the back of the van to imitate the onscreen couple having sex, while the crew filmed it for the episode.

It was after filming finished though that the scene did not get approval and had to be changed.

Denise said: "You were doing a rather raunchy scene for soap opera, pre-watershed, and you were pretending to do jiggy-jigs in the back of a van. And the van was rocking so much they can't show it?"

Lawrence agreed before imitating how they were jumping around in the van, leaving Denise in hysterics.

Emma then explained: "So the guy who owned the van, he was shaking it. We all got told to just shake the van so then we went for it.

"And then obviously the director came over and went, 'compliance have said no'. So they had to do a huge wide shot from the field."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
