Emmerdale star Sally Dexter has said it would be "dreadful" if her character Faith Dingle died before she had the chance to mend her relationship with son Cain Dingle.
Faith recently learned her cancer had returned, as she was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer and told it was incurable.
She is currently having treatment but doesn't know how long she has left, and next week will see her finally tell her children Cain and Chas about her illness.
The soap has not detailed if and when Faith will pass away, but it has been said her illness will shorten her life, and depending on her treatment she might have "months not years".
Now, actress Sally has told The Mirror that she would hate it if her character passed away before fixing things with her children, amid her strained relationship with son Cain due to their past.
She joked she would refuse to leave until the two had made peace, as she hinted the storyline wasn't going to have a happy ending for Faith.
Sally told us, when asked if she was hoping for a happy reunion "before the worst happens": "It would be dreadful if it didn't, we'd be left on a minor chord, the song wouldn't be finished, it would be terrible.
"I couldn't bear that, in fact I’d refuse to leave until it was resolved... that could be a way of staying on!"
On Faith's relief once her loved ones know the truth, she spilled: "Yes, an enormous relief.
"She doesn't know really how long she has got so every minute is precious, even when he is being awful to her and there are times where he is being really, really awful, she still wants him to be there, she still wants to be with him.
"She loves him unconditionally but she wouldn't half like it if they got back together and were friends again."
On what leads to Faith revealing all after weeks of secrecy, she explained: "I think it is the influence of Wendy and Moira, and going to the hospital and meeting other people who are dealing with it.
"She desperately wants to do it on her terms and that is what she is waiting for, to try and get their relationship in a healthy place so she can be honest with her children, and get an honest reaction from them and not a pity-ship."
