Emmerdale’s Liam Cavanagh is set to lash out at serial killer Meena Jutla in scenes on the ITV soap next week, as he’s forced to relive his daughter Leanna’s death in court.
The dramatic scenes come after Liam found out on the soap last week that Leanna’s ring would be “inadmissible” as evidence in the trial.
Friday’s half-hour instalment saw Manpreet Sharma reconsidering her reluctance to testify against her sister, amid rampant anxiety, after Liam brought her the troubling news.
As he detailed how the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) had said Leanna’s ring, which Meena took from her finger after murdering her, was “inadmissible”, fans were left predicting the outcome of the trial.
Now, as Manpreet is set to make a U-turn decision on testifying, ITV spoilers have revealed how the harrowing courtroom scenes will take their toll on GP Liam.
Meena’s trial finally begins next week on the soap, leaving the village on tenterhooks as the legal battle to bring the killer to justice gets underway.
Tension spikes next week on the ITV soap when Meena enters the courtroom, basking in the spotlight.
Liam is finally ready to testify against the gleeful murderer, but is then thrown off-guard by Meena’s fake humility and shyness.
When the jury then appears to be sympathetic to her, Liam is devastated and fights tears on the stand.
The tense courtroom scenes ramp up a notch when the defence begin their onslaught of accusations, leaving Liam blindsided when he’s accused of having an affair with Meena.
Horrified at the suggestion and angered by Meena’s feigned vulnerability, Liam’s rage gets the better of him and he lashes out at Meena.
The grieving dad then agonises over whether his outburst has lost him the support of the jury.
The next day, although she dreads the day ahead of her, Manpreet is determined to take down her sister in court and take to the stand to prove her evil actions.
Once in court, Manpreet refuses to let Meena’s performance rattle her as she takes the stand to testify against her sister.
It’s a tough ordeal as the defence delves deep into Manpreet’s past and tries to make her look like a seasoned liar.
Manpreet is infuriated to see her gloating sister relishing the spectacle, but her high spirits are later dampened when she’s advised against taking the stand.
Eager to allow her ego the limelight, Meena rejects this advice and excitedly prepares for taking to the stand the following day, rehearing her lines in her cell.
As the courtroom awaits the jury’s eventual verdict on the trial, will the victims of Meena’s crimes finally have justice or has she pulled the wool over their eyes?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV.
