Emmerdale Sheree Murphy's Liverpool FC husband and spat with Celebrity Gogglebox star

Sheree Murphy is renowned as an Emmerdale legend.

The soap star became a fan favourite with her portrayal of Tricia Dingle in the ITV show. Tricia arrived in the Yorkshire Dales in 1998 and was unrecognisable to her grandad, Alan Turner.

The then-manager of the Woolpack eventually welcomed Tricia into his life - and offered her a job at the iconic fictional pub. She became a mainstay in the show and was involved in a whole of host of entertaining storylines during a rollercoaster stint in the village.

Tricia was embroiled in a rivalry with Bernice Blackstock after the character, played by Samantha Giles, was granted the bar manager position in the Woolpack. The two eventually sparked a friendship, but Tricia was never too far away from drama due to her turbulent love life.

Tricia was involved in relationships with Terry Woods and Scott Windsor, before she married Marlon Dingle. Her relationship with the Emmerdale legend was rocked when he had an affair with his cousin, Charity, while she was out of the country filming a Bollywood movie.

Marlon confessed the affair to Tricia and the marriage never recovered as she resigned to leave the village. The character met a tragic end in 2004 when she was killed during a lightning storm as she raced back to the Woolpack to tell Marlon she still loved him.

Fortunately for Sheree, her life away from the screen is a lot less dramatic than her on-screen counterpart. Sheree's career in showbiz started in 1996 with a cameo role in Only Fools and Horses. She played a female mugger in the classic BBC sitcom as she pursued an acting career.

She developed a strong friendship with Denise Van Outen at the beginning of her career as the Celebrity Gogglebox star dated a DJ named Darren, who was close friends with her brother. According to the Mirror, the two aspiring stars eventually moved in with one another, but fell out when Denise chose to go back to Darren's house rather than Sheree's after a night of clubbing.

Denise said: "This story saddens me a bit because Sheree and I were good friends, and I suppose it was my relationship with Darren and the way it came about that came between us for a long time. When I arrived at the house, Sheree's mum Heather opened the door, not looking terribly happy."

Sheree's mother explained it was wrong to go out with a girlfriend but go off with a boy "and leave her". Denise added: "It's one of those things that, as a mum, I now understand entirely. But back then, I was a teenage girl, determined to follow the party wherever it went."

Sheree landed the role in Emmerdale two years after her appearance in Only Fools and Horses and decided to exit the show in 2004 to concentrate on raising her two young children. She told the Soap from the Box podcast: "I decided to leave, but it was under circumstances where my dad had just died, I'd just had a baby, so I had two little ones under the age of two."

However, the 46-year-old also spoke of her regret at leaving the show - and wished she had just requested a break so Tricia could potentially return to the Dales. She said: "Now when I look at it, I think maybe I should have fought and said, 'No, I will come back, I just need some time out.'

"But then I look at all the other things I've done since I've left 'Emmerdale' and things happen for a reason, don't they? I think I was just sad because I loved playing Tricia so much. I love it when any old character comes back to a soap, so it would have been nice to do that."

Sheree is married to ex-footballer Harry Kewell. The winger met the soap star when he was playing for Leeds United and they met at a nightclub in the city. Sheree's soap exit coincided as Kewell made the move to play for Liverpool FC in 2003.

She said: "My husband was moving football clubs and they asked me to stay for another year. I just wanted to spend some more time with my mum in London, so I was in the wrong headspace."

Sheree has been married to the Australian footballer since 2002 and they now share four children together named Taylor, Ruby, Matilda and Dolly. According to the Mirror, she told the Sunday People that the secret to their long marriage is being comfortable spending time apart.

She said: “Our secret is spending so much time apart. With Harry working away from home so much, we always make time to reconnect with each other. We’re determined never to get to the point where we lose touch with each other.”

Sheree has since appeared in shows such as Hollyoaks and I'm A Celebrity since she left Emmerdale. She currently presents BBC series Yes Chef and also hosts her own show on Hits Radio.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITV Hub
