Emmerdale’s Sam Dingle has been involved in a dramatic storyline for the soap's 50th anniversary. Viewers were left horrified when the much-loved character was close to his death after landing into a piece of farm machinery, with a spike going through his shoulder during the storm that swept the Yorkshire village.
However Sam was very lucky and will make a full recovery however it’s not all good news for him as he doesn’t realise that back at home his son Samson hasn't made it home.
Away from the soap actor James has a lot less drama in his real life compared to his character Sam. He joined the ITV soap as Sam at 21-years-old in February 1995, when the character was released from a young offenders institute.

Sam got involved in several dodgy schemes alongside his family, one of which was taking part in an armed robbery with his uncle Albert in 1998. However, they were caught by the police and jailed, MEN reports.
The actor later took a two-year break however returned to the village as Sam in 2000 -and he's remained a staple character ever since.

The 49-year-old is engaged to his fiancée Nancy Lucas, who runs a dance company called Total Dance. The pair got engaged in 2010 on Valentine's Day and also share two daughters together.
The couple share a thirteen-year-old daughter named Lily and their youngest, Ava-Rose, was born in 2016. However, the couple struggled to get pregnant and after two years of trying to get they decided to go down the route of IVF to give their daughter a little sister. However, just when they finally put in place the plans to begin the process, they fell pregnant naturally.

Emmerdale fans were recently left baffled at Jame’s real accent after the soap's official Instagram account shared behind the scenes clips as the 50th anniversary drama continues.
His character Sam is well known for his thick Yorkshire accent however He keeps a low profile when not filming and rarely gives interviews, so his real voice has come as a shock to many.
In a behind the scenes clip posted on Emmerdale's official Instagram account, the ITV soap reveals that a stunt double was used to perform Sam's recent graphic scenes.
However, while the clip shows many impressive stunts and filming techniques, it was the actor's accent that surprised fans the most.
The comments section of the clip, which has since amassed 87,732 views, was quickly flooded by astonished fans. One Emmerdale said: "Love sam and it's so weird to hear him speak when out of character", a second added: "James’ accent never fails to surprise me", while a third penned: "An absolutely brilliant actor."
