Emmerdale's Natalie Ann Jamieson says on-screen son makes playing killer's mum 'child's play'

Emmerdale's Natalie Ann Jamieson, who plays, Amy Wyatt on the ITV soap has credited her young co-star Huey Quinn, who plays her on-screen son, Kyle for making filming "tough scenes" easier.

The actress is in the midst of her biggest storyline at the moment after her on-screen persona Amy found out this week that her son, Kyle, is a killer.

The truth about Al Chapman's murder was finally revealed this week as 10-year-old Kyle was exposed as the killer in eerie flashback scenes.

Last week Cain discovered his sister Chas was having an affair with Al Chapman. Cain confronted his sister's lover, which resulted in Al getting shot. It was understood that Cain was to blame as he pleaded guilty to Al’s murder and is currently facing a life sentence for the murder.

However, it was later revealed that Cain was innocent and it was in fact his son, Kyle who killed Al. Viewers watched on as the youngster confessed all to his mum Amy in heart-breaking scenes.

And now, Natalie, who plays Kyle's mum has spoken out about how difficult it was the film as she praised Huey for making it like "child's play", she admitted the young star even had to help her out with some of her lines, the Mirror reports.

Natalie said: “It’s so funny… every time I forgot a line, he’d tell me it, I’d go ‘Why do you know my lines? You’ve got enough of your own to learn!’”

Expressing her pride for Huey during the filming of emotionally draining scenes, Natalie added: “They’re very emotional scenes. We filmed it one day, just the two of us on set. There was lots of crying… it was draining. There’s a lot for Huey to do in that episode so I was just so proud of him.”

Natalie said she found it easy to portray a protective mother, despite not having any children of her own. She said: “Any mum would do all they could to protect their child, especially at that age, I don’t think there would be any other instinct than to protect them.

“On my scripts, I had stage directions that read, ‘Like a lioness protecting her cub’ so you can see how they wanted it to be played.

“Talking to lots of other actresses on set who have children, they say that’s just what you do. There would be no way you’d let your child take the fall.”

Speaking of her own personal life, Natalie admitted she has no immediate plans to start a family. She said: “I’m not a particularly maternal person.”

The actress, who met her partner Ali Ward at drama school, went on to say: "I don’t dream about being pregnant or having children. I’m constantly around young people and love having them in my life – they’re an absolute joy – but I never think about having my own.”

Although the actress does enjoy being a mentor and soap mum to Huey, she said: "“He’s such an inquisitive young man, he’s constantly asking questions and wants to know what’s going on.

“He could do any job on set as he knows everything that’s going on. He’s so funny… he’ll talk you through the entire family tree.

“He’ll ask why I’m a Wyatt not a Dingle and then he goes, ‘Oh, I know, you just did it with a Dingle!’ He should be writing this stuff.”
