Emmerdale actor Mark Charnock has bid an emotional farewell to an ITV co-star after they announced their retirement.
Duncan Wood, star of ITV News’ Calendar, has made the decision to leave the programme after nearly two decades, after an incredible 32 year career at the broadcaster.
Taking to Twitter, Duncan announced: “It’s a wrap! Tough decision but one I’ve thought long and hard about. Thank you ITV for 32 rollercoaster years of live telly and to the amazing team ITV Calendar I shall miss you greatly!”
Soap star Mark, who has played Marlon Dingle since 1996, penned a sweet farewell note to Duncan following the news.
Mark was one of the first to take to the comments section as he wrote: “Oh Duncan!!! You’re a legend. I’m sad to hear this, but I’m very glad to have known you all these years and I’ll miss bumping into you round the building.
“You’ve always been so kind and supportive as well as being outstanding at your job. Good luck in everything, fella x.”
Duncan then replied to Mark, writing: “Thanks so much Mark, it’s great to have worked alongside you and the Emmerdale gang, the best in the business. Hopefully catch up soon x.”
Plenty more of Duncan’s ITV co-stars chimed in with their own tributes, with regional ITV News presenter Nick Smith penning: “Sorry to see you go fella, and I know those across Yorkshire, Lincs and beyond will miss you dearly.
“Hope [you] get some well deserved rest and best of luck with whatever comes next!”
Greg Scott added: “No Duncs! Another older - sorry - senior television [star] bows out when still having so much to offer. Will you be going elsewhere? Or taking up crocheting… in a rocking chair.”
Duncan joked back: “I’m entering the world tiddlywinks championship next year!”
This comes after Emmerdale's Mark paid an emotional tribute to Elizabeth Boag after she left the soap.
The Marlon Dingle actor took to Twitter to say goodbye to Elizabeth's character Gail Hancock as viewers watched her final scenes.
Taking to Twitter, Elizabeth posted: "Bye Gail! Thank you Mark Charnock, Zoe Henry, all the cast, crew and casting team Emmerdale. Loved every minute!"
Mark replied: "You were wonderful in the part, Liz! Just superb xx."
Fans are desperate to see Elizabeth stay in the part, with one writing: "Make Liz a regular as Gail. Fantastic acting. The continuity of character and the attention to detail surpasses most TV and film."
Another typed: "Isn’t the local doctors needing a nurse after theirs went to prison? Let’s have Gail as a regular!"
