Emmerdale's Jonny McPherson cried for three months over tragic storyline

Emmerdale favourite Jonny McPherson has spoken of the emotional toll storylines have had on him in recent months.

As Emmerdale fans know, doctor Liam Cavanagh, played by Jonny McPherson, has endured some gut-wrenching tragedies in his life. From major relationship issues to, most notably, the killing of his daughter by evil Meena Jutla.

As reported by the Metro, Jonny has spoken of the challenges he’s faced stepping away from work after a long day filming Emmerdale. The acting star has described how the death of on-screen daughter Leanna, played by Mimi Slinger, impacted him.

Jonny said: “For me with the whole Leanna storyline it felt like coming home from a funeral every day. For 10 hours a day at work just feeling incredibly sad.

“I must have gotten through about 10 tear sticks over the course of three months, constantly stabbing yourself in the face, sobbing, wracking. If you’re going to do it properly you have to go through it, your body becomes tense, you have to short-cut your brain into feeling like you’re actually going through it.
