Emmerdale's Jeff Hordley gushes over 'beautiful village' and how Yorkshire has adopted him

Emmerdale legend Jeff Hordley has spoken of his joy at being an adopted Yorkshireman.

Jeff Hordley, 52, first started playing soap bad boy Cain Dingle back in 2000. Over the past two decades, his character has become a firm favourite with millions of Emmerdale fans.

Despite originally being from Oldham, in Lancashire, Jeff very much sees himself as a proud Yorkshireman. The acting star made the admission when he appeared at a press event previewing Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary - being celebrated in October.

When asked about what he’s looking forward to as part of the celebrations, Jeff answered: “I’m thrilled and very proud to be part of this show. One of the jewels in the crown, as much as we’ve got a wonderful cast, team and crew, is where we work in this beautiful village. I think it is great that we showcase Yorkshire and I’m just proud to be part of it being a Lancashire lad. I genuinely am, I feel like a surrogate Yorkshire boy.” Co-star, Katherine Dow Blyton, who plays Harriet Finch, then joked: “He means he’s tight.”

Emmerdale boss Jane Hudson has given a hint of what fans of the soap can expect from the major milestone month. She said: “Instead of just celebrating one day, we thought, why don’t we celebrate the whole month to mark it? And, that’s exactly what we are going to be doing.

“In true Emmerdale-style, we have got every story imaginable. We have got things which will make you laugh, make you cry, make you surprised and stunts which will rock your world.

“It was really important to us to not just celebrate our wonderful characters but to also celebrate the village itself. The whole month will be set in our village and it will really show it off.”
