Emmerdale's Ash Palmisciano spoke about his heartbreak after the death of his beloved mum.

The soap star was comforted by fans after he paid tribute to his mum with a sweet photo of his parents.

Ash, 32, appeared in Emmerdale as the show's first transgender character Matty Barton since 2018.

"Still can’t believe you’re not with us mum, I’m just starting everyday like you did…with a good cuppa, Hope, love and positivity!

"My biggest inspiration and role model, Miss you everyday #Micki #MyMum"

He was flooded with messages of support from his followers and pals, who were shocked by the news.

His character Matty was born Hannah, who was Moira Barton's child.

After he returned to Butler's Farm identifying as a man, he was mistaken by Cain Dingle as an intruder, and he punched him.

However his mum Moira instantly recognised him, but found it hard to accept his transition.

She was also mad with him for missing his sister Holly's funeral.

He said that he wants to encourage more support and understanding of the transgender community (ITV)

Before joining the dales in 2018, he said: "I’m very excited to be joining the very welcoming Emmerdale family.

"From nervous auditions to now working alongside the team daily has been truly amazing.

"Matty’s a ground breaking character to play and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead for him."

Earlier in March shared a photo of him wearing a shirt with "Barton" on the back.

He added the caption: Today is Trans day of Visibility and I’m really lucky that as an Actor I get to play a character that happens to be trans, Matty Barton in @emmerdale.

"I do it because acting has always been my dream job but I also wanted to play this part to help and contribute to creating more empathy for trans people.

"Sadly there is still a lot of injustice and cruelty to trans people we often don’t see or hear about," he continued.

"About HALF of all young trans people attempt suicide because of how bad their life experience is."

He added: "This static (SIC) is why I want to help and why I see more and more amazing Trans people standing up and wanting change. People think it’s just ‘trans people being angry at the minute’ it’s not, it’s fighting for a better future for our young people."
