Emmerdale's Amy Walsh and EastEnders' Toby-Alexander Smith unveil newborn's name

Soap star couple Amy Walsh and Toby-Alexander Smith have revealed the adorable name of their newborn daughter.

The couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl, over the festive period on December 27.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, the new parents shared they've named their baby girl Bonnie Mae Smith.

Amy, 34, who plays Tracy Metcalfe in Emmerdale, met Toby, 30, who plays EastEnders villain Gray Atkins, on the set of Strictly Come Dancing two years ago, when they were there to cheer on friends.

Toby told OK! that having a baby has now cemented their relationship.

He explained the name choice, as he said: "We'd go on walks around the lake where Amy used to live in Leeds during lockdown and talk about names.

"Bonnie was one that came up really early, even before Amy was pregnant."

Amy added: "Whenever we hypothetically talked about our family, we always said “our little Bonnie”. When she came, she couldn’t have been more of a Bonnie."

But Amy's pregnancy and labour weren't as easy as picking a name was for the new mum.

Amy tested positive for Group B strep - an infection which we carry as adults but with pregnancy, it can affect the baby if you've got it at the time of labour - meaning Amy had to be induced due to the risk of infection being higher.

The labour lasted 22 hours 'from start to finish', which also included having to have two epidurals.

She told OK! Magazine: "It wasn’t the natural labour I would have chosen."

The soap stars first went public with their relationship at Christmas 2020 when they were pictured on the red carpet at the opening night of A Christmas Carol in London.

EastEnders airs tonight on BBC One at 8pm and Emmerdale on ITV at 7pm
