Emmerdale's Amelia Spencer actor pitched heartbreaking story to producers

Emmerdale star Daisy Campbell is renowned for her role as Amelia Spencer in the long running ITV soap. Amelia is currently having a difficult time in the village after discovering she is pregnant.

The 19-year-old actress, who has played the role of Amelia since she was 8-years-old certainly knows a thing or two about storylines and recently revealed she pitched the current plot to producers alongside her co-star and on-screen dad, Liam Fox.

The character began suffering bouts of dizziness and collapsed in scenes that aired last week. Doctors told Amelia the collapse was due to side effects from taking diet pills, however she was stunned to hear she was also expecting a child.

During Tuesday's edition of ITV breakfast show, Lorraine, actress Daisy spoke to stand in presenter Ranvir Singh about Amelia's current decision as her character considers having an abortion.

Ranvir said: "What I find extraordinary is this really quite harrowing part of Amelia’s life is something you went to scriptwriters with."

Daisy explained: "[Liam and I] had this idea in our head, let’s put a story together and we can pitch it to the producers.

Daisy Campbell spoke to Ranvir Singh on ITV's Lorraine about her Emmerdale character (ITV)

"They were like, 'Yeah, we’ll think about it,' and then I got told about the weight gain storyline and then in January I got told about the pregnancy."

Daisy spoke of her pride of being involved in the important storyline as it has led to her becoming involved with ITV's mental health campaign, Britain Get Talking.

The soap star continued: "[Amelia] has got this whole vulnerable side coming out of her with this storyline and there's so much anxiety building up inside her. She's only 15 and she's got nobody to speak to so I think it really ties in well with the campaign.

"I wanted this storyline to do justice to young teen mums. "They're so amazing and I've had loads of messages from them. I'm doing this for them."

Emmerdale every weekday on ITV at 7.30pm. Stream episodes at the ITV Hub.
