Emmerdale will see the return of Jai Sharma's mother Georgia Sharma in upcoming scenes, with the role being recast following a DNA bombshell.
In a twist, Jai found out Rishi Sharma was not his biological father in recent episodes, spinning his world upside down.
The character is now eager to learn the truth about his parentage, believing his whole life has been a lie.
It's been revealed that it will pave the way for the return of Jai's mother Georgia, who left the village back in 2015 after splitting with husband Rishi.
But the role has been recast, with EastEnders actress Lin Blakley taking over from previous star Trudie Goodwin.
In the latest episode, the former character made contact with her son as he called her for answers about the identity of his real father, wanting to know why she lied.
Jai told partner Laurel Thomas that his mother was stuttering on the phone, clearly not telling him the whole truth.
Now, it's been revealed that the character will return and "ruffle feathers" as the truth comes out.
Jai had learned Rishi adopted him as a baby in some papers he found at his dad's house, but Rishi initially stayed quiet and did not give him the answers he needed, leaving Jai furious.
Eventually the pair did speak, after Rishi claimed everything he and Jai's mother had done was in his best interest.
During their conversation, Rishi claimed that his ex Georgia was in fact Jai's biological mother as Jai had believed all this time.
Rishi claimed that Georgia fell pregnant after a one-night stand while she and Rishi were friends and that he decided to marry her to support her, and their romance eventually blossomed.
Jai wanted to know who his real father was, but Rishi said the man was out of the picture before he was born and didn't even know about him.
Speaking about joining the show, actress Lin said: "How lucky am I to play such a strong character as Georgia. So different from roles I’ve played of late.
"I have enjoyed every single minute. Gorgeous cast and crew!! And the gorgeous Dales. Thank you Emmerdale."
Producer Kate Brook added: "We're thrilled to have an actor of Lin's calibre step into the role of the formidable Georgia. A force to be reckoned with, she'll have a secret for the Sharmas that could potentially blow their world apart".
It comes after fans came up with the devastating theory that Georgia may have fallen pregnant after being raped, or that the father was someone banished from the family.
Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "Wonder if Jai’s mother was raped, and that’s why Rishi won’t tell him the full truth."
Another agreed: "There has to be some god awful reason why Rishi has never told Jay. Like r@pe or something equally as awful."
A third fan said: "I don’t think it was a one night stand," as a fourth fan tweeted: "I think that Jai is a result of rape. Rishi took the mantle, but now is bearing the brunt of Jai's anger."
Another theory read: "Rishi is hiding something or someone relative perhaps a brother a bad apple in family banished from family."
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
