Emmerdale fans take aim at Chas Dingle as they fume over character's 'hypocrisy'

Emmerdale fans have slammed Chas Dingle as they called out her 'hypocrisy'.

The ITV soap aired some scenes tonight which got everyone talking, as Chas - played by Lucy Pargeter - visited Cain in prison and fumed at him for not telling her about their long-lost brother. Angry, she called out her brother and said he couldn't blame her for being in prison, after she had an affair with businessman Al Chapman before his untimely death.

Now fans have taken to Twitter to fume over Chas' reaction to the news and slammed her for being a hypocrite over it all.

One angry fan wrote: "Does Chas does not realise the irony of calling Cain a hypocrite? #Emmerdale," whilst a second penned online: "Somebody knock #Chas off of her self righteous soapbox already! #Emmerdale @ITV."

"No, screw you Chas, you morally bankrupt piece of trash #Emmerdale," a third wrote, whilst a fourth viewer of the ITV soap penned online: " #Emmerdale Chas playing the victim is wearing thin for me."

A fifth added: "Chas is not a likeable character at all. Cold, odd, old fashioned #emmerdale," with a sixth writing online: "Chas just gets worse and worse it’s always all about her such a selfish cow #emmerdale."

" #Emmerdale Chas you've a bloody cheek on you with the way you're getting on. Anyone would think you're actually a good person, not!" another wrote, as an eight viewer shared: "Just when you think Chas couldn't get worse #emmerdale."

Lucy previously revealed she has never experienced such a backlash to a storyline before.

"They are absolutely furious with her. In fact with all the storylines I've ever played I have never had a response like this. They are furious and the vigour and the anger they have is strong," she said.

"They are cross – she has betrayed her marriage. But I do understand their reaction."

Lucy had previously told The Mirror how she doesn't like the storyline herself but has "sucked up her own feelings" about it to be able to portray it in the best way for viewers at home – as she slammed Chas' decisions.

"You have to [believe it.] Over the years, the amount of stories that have been pitched and given to you that are a massive gift to have, but not all the time do you believe it. Not all the time can you justify it as yourself," she said, "You have to put yourself in the character's position and go okay it’s being pitched to me, this is what I've gotta do, I have to try to believe it.

"I don't have to necessarily like it personally, but as an actress or actor you have to find truth in it and just trust what your character has been given. And if the director or the producer or the writer is putting it your way, you have to suck up your own feelings about things sometimes, and just go well if that is what my character is doing I have to throw myself into it and believe it."
