Emmerdale fans think they have spotted a blunder in the soap's new storyline as they were left stunned by the latest twist involving Jai Sharma. It was teased in spoilers last week that the character, played by Chris Bisson, will discover a secret that will rock his relationship with his dad, Rishi.
And during Monday night's trip to the Dales, the secret was revealed as Jai discovered that he is adopted and that Rishi isn't his real dad. The first episode of the ITV soap of the week started on a high note for Jai after he made a mistake whilst booking a holiday for the family.
Not only did he book a family apartment, he accidentally booked the Honeymoon Suite but it gave Laurel an idea. Thinking it's a sign, Laurel decided to pop the question out of the blue and a delighted Jai wanted it done properly so she soon got down on one knee and asked Jai to marry her.

With her proposal delightfully accepted, the newly engaged couple were soon happily discussing the correct order to tell people their news, with Laurel choosing to break the news to step-daughter Gabby Thomas first after she was recently jilted at the alter.
Meanwhile, in order to progress with getting married, Jai realised he needs to retrieve his divorce certificate so heads to find his legal documents but as he rummaged through the drawers, he was left shocked to find papers that revealed he was adopted, before showing them to Laurel.
But Emmerdale fans think they have spotted a problem with Jai only just discovering the truth. @TVMusings22 tweeted: "Why have they changed Jai’s backstory now? He would’ve needed his birth certificate before yet suddenly he’s just found some adoption certificate? #Emmerdale."
@lolalexi86 posted: "So Jai has been married at least twice since moving to Emmerdale but I’m pretty sure you need your birth/adoption certificate for the meeting to get the marriage license I know my friend from school did and that’s how she found out she was adopted. Yes, know it’s a soap." @EmperorMendoza added: "How has Jai never needed his birth certificate before? He drives, and has a passport #emmerdale."
Others, however, were too distracted by the twist which they say they didn't see coming. @TwellyWatcher said: "Jai’s adopted!! Knew there would be a twist but didn’t see that coming. Good twist! What’s going to happen next? Jai will be confronting Rishi that’s for sure… #Emmerdale."
@RyanTheSoapking shared: "So it Jai was adopted - what would this mean for Priya? Was she also adopted as well? Or is Rishi her real dad. This is good Storyline - a twist I wasn't expecting.
