This week’s Emmerdale kicked off with high drama on Monday evening, as Cain and Al finally faced off in tense and potentially fatal scenes.
The warehouse face-off was set in motion after Cain ( Jeff Hordley ) finally learnt of Chas (Lucy Pargeter) and Al’s ( Michael Wildman ) affair in Emmerdale.
The hugely protective Dingle patriarch uncovered weeks of the pair’s clandestine meetings after Chas unwittingly exposed her own secret over the phone.
Chas held her own when a suspicious Cain quizzed her, but all came tumbling out when she left her burner phone unattended and it buzzed.
Cain scrolled through messages from an unknown number and decided to dial the number, at which point Al immediately picked up – confirming his worst suspicions.
Cain was thrown into a violent rage at the revelation, as he concocted a horrifying plan to put Al in his place once and for all, unbeknownst to Chas.
He used the same phone to trick Al into arranging another secret meeting, only for Al to turn up and find himself staring down the barrel of Cain’s shotgun.
Al was terrified at first, but soon realised his Dingle enemy had no intention of using it – yet he then let his confidence get the best of him when he taunted Cain, launching the pair into a fist fight.
The two men tussled in the abandoned barn and just at that moment they spotted the unmanned shotgun – prompting Cain to dive for it and let rip a potentially fatal bullet.
However, fans were left on a major cliff-hanger as to who pulled the trigger – and whether the bullet hit anyone.
Yet Emmerdale fans believe they may have figured out a third person involved in the fray and took to social media to react.
One person cryptically tweeted: “They were miles away from the gun....so who else was in the barn.”
A second added: “Knowing Emmerdale it’ll be neither of them that got shot. Probs end up being Chas somehow.”
Another suspicious fan floated two possible theories: “Al's been shot I reckon. It was leaked ages ago Michael Wildman was leaving as he's confirmed to do Panto season.
“Unless we're being misled and it's Chas who gets shot and survives but injured, somehow managed to slip away from Paddy AGAIN?”
“Well utter tosh..!” another fan wrote on the cliffhanger. “Guaranteed NO ONE dead Chas shot into the air to stop them fighting or some c*** like that.”
“Bet neither of them got shot,” another fan tweeted as a fellow viewer penned: “Anyone think that it's neither Al or Cain who's shot?”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV.
