Teary-eyed fans had nothing but praise for tonight's episode which was packed with beautiful and moving scenes of Rhona's and Marlon's wedding.
Instead of the usual chaos and disaster, tonight's episode of Emmerdale (mostly) offered funny moments, touching gestures and a sense of wholesomeness as a huge chunk of the characters turn up to celebrate the happy couple. While it started off with Marlon Dingle in hospital after his collapse, the eager groom still made it to church on time to marry Rhona Goskirk.
To everyone's surprise, he decided to walk down the aisle instead of using his wheelchair, leaving many fans emotional. The pair exchanged moving vows and there was barely a dry eye left inside the church.
ITV viewers praised producers, writers and cast members for the "brilliant" episode - and not even Chas and Al's affair could overshadow the joy. Taking to Twitter, gushing fans shared how much they enjoyed the episode.
Annette Montgomery tweeted: "Just watched Emmerdale and it was brilliant loved every second and I was in tears."
Steph said: "Emotional scenes tonight, lots of ups and downs, very well written."
Dan Indyk gushed: "Wow, what an episode that was Marlon finally walking down the aisle to marry Rhona such a touching moment to watch and a huge step in the right direction."
Erin praised: "What a gorgeous episode… funny, sweet, sad, beautiful - everything that soap does best. Mark Charnock and Zoe Henry have played an absolute blinder, both tonight and over the last few months."
Innessk wrote: "Absolutely loving @emmerdale tonight brilliant acting by the whole cast especially @markcharnock couldn't help wondering though what @HordleyJeff was thinking seeing his real life wife @ZoeHenry03 marrying someone else well done @emmerdale on a very moving episode."
Sarah commented: "There was glimpses of Emmerdale of old there. Lots of characters involved, proper storylines and no stupid gimmicks. A really good episode that sadly we only get once in a blue moon these days."
And Jordan Phelps said: "A good episode, see Emmerdale this is what you do right. Just proves you don’t need a big stunt or week."
However, one viewer was left upset over Marlon's decision to abandon his wheelchair, implying that getting out of or away from using a wheelchair was somehow preferable, or a slight against wheelchair users. Amy wrote: "Watching @emmerdale and I really have to ask, why make Marlon walk down the aisle?
"He’s clearly struggling. It’s not romantic, and there’s nothing wrong with needing to use a wheelchair. Disappointing."
