Emmerdale fans were left gobsmacked on Wednesday night as Rhona Goskirk announced she would propose to Marlon Dingle despite being fresh from a rocky patch in their relationship.
This same after the couple faced a huge hurdle in their relationship on the soap this week after Marlon (Mark Charnock) discovered the truth about Rhona's (Zoe Henry) recent link with her abusive ex, Pierce Harris.
Rhona agreed to help Pierce track down his son Marcus Dean (Darcy Grey), but felt unable to confide in Marlon about what had been going on.
Earlier this week on the soap, Rhona knew she had to tell Marlon the truth about Marcus, but when he overheard the tailend of a conversation with Kim Tate (Claire King) about who Marcus really is, Rhona was forced into doing it before she was prepared.
Marlon was left stunned by the news and left, leaving a devastated Rhona fearing for the future of their relationship.
When the couple later ran into one another, things went from bad to worse as a bitter fight ensued in which Rhona insulted Marlon's ego and accused him of victim shaming her.
But things have since turned around at a quick pace as the pair reconciled and with Rhona determined to patch up their relationship with a grand gesture, she announced she would propose to Marlon in the closing moments of the show on Thursday.
Yet fans were not quite as excited as they took to Twitter to react to the surprise proposition, with many pointing out the couple were fresh out of a rocky patch and dubbing Rhona “chaotic”.
One wrote: “Oh god, nooooooooooooooooooooo The worst matched couple in soap history. Spare us.”
Another said: “Marriage bloody hell Rhona you're moving a bit fast ain't you considering you fell out with him on Monday” alongside a string of crying laughing emojis.
A third social media user said: “I feel like this Rhona and Marlon stuff would of been way cuter if he hadn't been treating her like garbage for the past week or so”
Another said: “Rhona and Marlon literally weren't even talking 5 minutes ago. To go from that to actually proposing within 24 hours kinda seems a bit rushed does it not? Why now? A sudden wedding isn't really gonna magically fix what's clearly already broken in their relationship sadly”
Another tweeted asking: “How long are we giving the marriage?” as a fellow user wrote: “That means it will be disastrous then.”
