Emmerdale fans given first look at joint funeral for Liv and Faith Dingle

Emmerdale bosses have offered a first look at the double funeral of Liv and Faith Dingle, which will air during tonight's episode.

As viewers tune in this evening (Friday), two horse drawn carriages carrying Liv and Faith’s coffins will be seen making their way into the village. At the funeral, an emotional congregation watches on as Eric Pollard reads Faith’s final letter to her loved ones.

When the funeral moves outside, Vinny’s breath is taken away when he sees the entire village has come out to pay their respects.

Many soap fans are still upset over the deaths of two hugely loved and admired Emmerdale characters. While Faith's death was not a surprise, she had terminal cancer and had even planned her own funeral, Liv was young and recently married, leaving behind a devastated husband.

Vinny and Liv fell victim to a dramatic storm that wreaked havoc on the village, and left them crushed against a wall by a falling caravan. Although Vinny was able to pick himself up from the wreckage, Liv remained heavily wounded, stating she couldn't feel her legs.

The storm slowly resided allowing emergency services to tend to the scene but Paddy was in the unfortunate position of delivering some terrible news. As Vinny questioned why it was taking so long to help Liv get up, Paddy explained she wouldn't make it out alive.

The caravan crushed Liv to the extent it was the only thing keeping her alive and if it was removed would cause too much damage to her vital organs. Vinny, Paddy, Al and Mandy broke down in tears, realising there was nothing they could do and were forced to say their goodbyes.

Speaking ahead of the joint funeral scenes, Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw told the ECHO: "Having a scene featuring the entire adult cast was not something we had done before and given the funeral was taking place towards the end of our October 50th birthday month, it felt very right and fitting that we had the whole cast there to say goodbye.

"It was no easy feat for the Emmerdale production team to organise and execute and nor was it easy to shoot as the Dingles said farewell to not one but two of their beloved family, some of the tears that fell that day were absolutely real. But behind the tears and sadness there was also a celebratory feel on set.

"A feeling of pride and honour that the October month was ending with all our villagers united on Main Street, demonstrating that love and warmth and togetherness that has kept Emmerdale on our screens for 50 years."

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV and the ITV Hub
