Emmerdale viewers were devastated after a fan favourite couple on the ITV soap called it quits on Tuesday evening, prompting one to leave the Dales.
The ITV soap said goodbye to actress Michelle Hardwick as vet Vanessa Woodfield left the village for a new life in Canada.
Vanessa was due to leave with girlfriend Suzy, but after finding her with Leyla Harding, she accused the pair of a hard drug-fuelled night partying.
Suzy left emotional at the accusation as Leyla then told the truth after Vanessa misunderstood the situation.
To add insult to injury, Suzy then later discovered Vanessa had not been upfront with her about her relationship with best friend Rhona Goskirk in the past.
Emmerdale viewers were aware the pair had a brief fling years ago when Vanessa fell for Rhona, but Suzy was in the dark and turned furious when she discovered the affair.
In emotional scenes at the end of the episode, Suzy told her: “There’s never been any trust. And no amount of snowy mountains in the world is going to change that.
“We’ll only end up hating each other and I don’t want that. Tell Johnny I’m sorry.”
Vanessa was then left sobbing at her kitchen table before she left for a new life in Canada.
Emmerdale viewers were equally emotional at the closing scenes, as one took to Twitter to write simply: “Suzy and vanessa,” alongside a string of crying faces.
A second wrote: "That was a good twist – I was expecting Suzy to leave with Vanessa to Canada where they'd break up from there."
Another added: "I was hoping Susie would go with Vanessa. #Emmerdale"
This comes as elsewhere on the Dales, observant Emmerdale fans believe they have sussed out who is the real father of Chloe Harris' baby.
In recent episodes Chloe, who is played by Jessie Elland, has been ramping up the pressure on Mackenzie Boyd, played by Lawrence Robb, after she revealed she was pregnant with his child.
In a bid to keep their one-night-stand a secret, Mackenzie and Chloe have hatched a cunning plan.
She has decided to keep the baby after having her first scan, and has lead Mack to believe that the baby is his – but fans aren't so sure.
"Maybe Noah is Chloe's baby father, not Mack and that be a big twist for Emmerdale," one wrote on Twitter.
Another added: "Wouldn't it be a plot twist if Al had slept with Chloe and got her pregnant."
