Emmerdale aired a huge twist on Friday night, as a character was arrested over the hit-and-run that left Alex Moore gravely injured.
But the character arrested wasn't the true culprit, and he was left stunned when the police accused him of dangerous driving following some misleading evidence.
An exit was teased for vicar Charles Anderson, as he was wrongly arrested at the end of the episode while he protested his innocence.
Viewers know that Charles wasn't the driver, and that another character continued to cover their tracks in the latest episode of the ITV soap.
Villain Alex was hit by a car at full speed, as he stood in the middle of the country road - while he was previously shown being attacked by Charles.
Alex was distracted by a phone call and didn't see or hear the car coming, as it struck him and left him gravely injured.
It was soon revealed that Billy Fletcher was the driver of the car, as he left him for dead in the road.
Billy had confessed to his partner Dawn Taylor what he'd done, with them realising the police might think it was deliberate given their history.
After hiding the car in a barn, shielding it from view as it was severely damaged, Billy struggled with what he had done.
But he didn't tell the police the truth, and instead acted as if nothing had happened with Dawn secretly supporting him.
Charles was grilled by the police investigating the hit-and-run, and soon there was apparently enough evidence for him to be taken in for questioning.
Officers noticed a huge dent on the front of Charles' car, which was likely caused by him slamming Alex on the bonnet in a recent fight.
Charles had threatened the character and pinned him into the vehicle after learning about his drugs scam.
As he was taken in for questioning, he was grilled by officers over his history with Alex and his whereabouts at the time of the incident.
At the end of the episode, the police made an arrest but they got the wrong guy as they officially arrested Charles, not Billy.
Charles begged them to listen to him as he pleaded with them that they had got the wrong person, but will Charles face punishment for something he didn't do?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
