Emmerdale will not air a live episode for its 50th anniversary, soap boss Jane Hudson has confirmed.
The producer ruled out a live episode or any live segments, with the focus instead being on a month of celebrations and drama.
With a series of storylines coming to a head, there will be a devastating storm that rips through the village, leaving lives on the line.
But any fans hoping for a live episode will be left disappointed, as this will not happen.
While the show has done live episodes in the past, the thought did not even cross the minds of the show's producers this time around.
Speaking to The Mirror and other press, Jane very bluntly said "no" when asked if it was in the pipeline.
She explained: "I mean, there's a reason the viewers like the lives, because they're looking for something to go wrong I think.
"The problem with live episodes is you're restricted in the stories you can tell, and we know that one of the things our viewers love are the stunts that we pull out of the bag and you can't do those in a live.
"The other big factor is COVID. If we suddenly have people testing positive on the day of the live episode and we go, 'oh, Jeff suddenly isn't available for that big story', I'm not sure what we would do.
"So no to the live, and please never let there be a live!"
Fans can expect the usual drama, possible deaths and a chaotic stunt that will leave several lives on the line - as well as some big returns.
Producer Kate Brooks told us: "We're all super excited about the 50th. I think, you know, it's a massive privilege to be a part of this big massive celebration. A lot of work and a lot of effort has gone into making sure that what hits the screens is going to be magnificent, and that you guys will enjoy it as much as we've enjoyed making it.
"As part of our big 50th Week, although there's a general month of celebrations, the big 50th week will focus on a massive storm that is going to rip through the village and absolutely leave a massive trail of destruction in its wake.
"Some of our best loved villagers will be in peril. And it's safe to say that literally the village won't be the same after this, and it will never be the same again, because the impact this storm has on people's lives is just massive."
Kate added: "We are keen to make sure that we've covered all the different characters, and that all the families who are in the village are affected and impacted in some way by what happens during the month of October."
Jane also said of how things would pan out: "Jane added: "So the whole storm takes place in one day across about three or four episodes. And it's all in daytime. It's very much a wind storm rather than a rain storm.
"We've got some amazing wind machines being tested at the moment which are epic, but they are a nightmare working with them.
"And I think all the stories that have been told across this month are stories that we've been building across the year, and nothing has just been shoehorned in. The stories are all driven by the characters and they all have an impact."
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
