Emmerdale’s visual effects designer has opened up about the challenges she faced ahead of the ITV soap's 50th anniversary.

In the upcoming episode fans will see a deadly storm hit the village and this story is also expected to end in tragedy.

Ahead of the dramatic episode visual effects designer Judy Lysagh has detailed how her role became challenging as she worked on making an epic visual experience for viewers.

She said: "The hardest element is not the shots but the extremely tight timescale. For last year’s super soap week we created completely different environments to the locations where we were filming. This year is about being invisible and manipulating what is filmed on camera."

Judy also spoke about how important it is to be on set while filming for the upcoming storm so that she can make sure she has all the elements so that can complete the shot.

To ensure that she gets the best results with her effects Judy said she works closely with the director and other members of the Emmerdale crew.

She added: “I do work closely with the director and the designer, however, every department is important. That sounds like I do not want to miss anyone out, that is not the case. A shot is like a jigsaw puzzle and anyone who works in VFX understands the role and effects each department has on making a shot work.”
