Emma Raducanu stalker who stole her father's shoe handed five-year restraining order

Emma Raducanu’s stalker - who walked 23 miles to her family home and took her father’s shoe as a souvenir - has been given a five-year restraining order.

Last month, Amrit Magar was found guilty of stalking the US Open champion between November 1 and December 4 last year following a trial at Bromley Magistrates’ Court.

It was heard that Magar went to Raducanu’s home on three separate occasions, loitering around the premises, leaving unwanted cards and gifts including a note that said the 19-year-old ‘deserved love’ along with a map illustrating the 23 miles he had walked from his home in Edgeware.

He also decorated a tree in her garden with Christmas lights and stole the trainer from her porch believing it belonged to her rather than her father.

Magar was arrested after the British number one’s father Ian was alerted by a doorbell camera, finding his trainer had been taken from the porch.

On Wednesday, District Judge Sushil Kumar handed Magar, from Harrow, north-east London, a five-year restraining order and sentenced the 35-year-old to an 18-month community order. The sentence includes 200 hours of unpaid work and an eight-week curfew between 9pm and 6am monitored by an electronic tag.

Raducanu revealed her safety concerns at her own home following the ordeal after declaring a stalker has visited it on three occasions. In a statement read to the court, Raducanu insisted she was concerned about leaving the home on her own.

When asked about the incident ahead of the Australian Open, Raducanu said: “Since all this has happened, I have felt very creeped out.

“I feel very apprehensive if I go out, especially if I am on my own.

“I feel like my freedom has been taken away from me. I am constantly looking over my shoulder. I feel on edge and worried this could happen again. I don't feel safe in my own home, which is where I should feel safest.”

She added that it had left her wanting to move as she fears Magar will return as he knows her address.
