Emma Hayes: Chelsea in no rush to find replacement for USA-bound manager

Chelsea are expected to take their time to appoint a replacement for Emma Hayes after she announced her shock decision to leave at the end of the season.

Hayes has agreed to become head coach of United States national team and could become the highest-paid female coach in the world. Talks with US Soccer are ongoing but the 47-year-old could receive a salary in line with US men's coach Gregg Berhalter.

Hayes, who has won an incredible six titles and five FA Cups during 11 years at Chelsea, will remain in charge for the rest of the season, giving the club time to identify her successor.

Chelsea are yet to start their recruitment process but it is understood former Manchester United manager Casey Stoney is among those who are admired. Stoney is manager of US side San Diego Wave and is unwilling to discuss a potential return to England until after the NWSL play-offs this month.

She is also viewed as a possible contender to take over from England head coach Sarina Wiegman if she leaves her role with the Lionesses at the end of her contract after Euro 2025.

Hayes, who took over at Chelsea in 2012, announced her departure shortly after the Blues moved three points clear at the top of the WSL with a 6-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday. Chelsea co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: "Emma has been one of the biggest drivers of change in women's football.

"Her achievements at Chelsea are unrivalled and will live in the club's history forever.

"Given everything she has contributed to Chelsea in over a decade with the club, and the legacy she leaves behind, we would never stand in her way when she felt it was the right time to pursue a new challenge."
