The Spaniard’s task of getting Villa firing again hasn’t been made any easier after Martinez suffered a hand injury against the Blues.
During half-time, the 2022 World Cup winner was replaced by Robin Olsen. According to football injury expert Physio Scout, supporters should brace themselves for more bad news.

“Emi Martinez has suffered a ‘small’ finger fracture. Time dependent on the location of the fracture. Assumed he’s has surgery. Recovery Time: 2-4 weeks,” the Physio Scout posted on X, formerly Twitter.
“Typically 2-4 week recovery, but hard to say due to the broadness in regards to the location of the fracture. Recovery could potentially be lengthened too due to the playing nature of a goalkeeper.”
Martinez will definately be ruled out of the midweek fixture against Brentford and the following game against Southampton on the weekend.
In the worst case scenario, the 32-year-old would miss the entirety of the festive period. That would include crunch Premier League clashes against Manchester City and Newcastle.
Furthermore, Martinez would also have to sit out the UEFA Champions League encounter against RB Leipzig on December 10.
Only time will tell how long the former Arsenal stopper will actually be ruled out for. Owing to the nature of the injury and Martinez’s employment as a goalkeeper, Villa will certainly not look to rush him back.
