Man dies after plane crash in Caiguna, 350km west of WA-SA border

A man aged in his 40s has died after the plane he was piloting crashed in the Caiguna area, about 350 kilometres west of the Western Australia-South Australia border.

He was the sole occupant of the plane.

WA Police say they were alerted to the crash about 9.30am.

Although police described the aircraft as a Cessna, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau identified it as an amateur-built Jabiru recreational plane.

The aircraft was registered with Recreation Aviation Australia, which says it has offered to provide technical support to police during its investigation.

Police from both Norseman and Eucla, about a four-hour drive each way, attended the scene.

Inquiries are continuing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

It is the second light plane crash this year in the remote region.

In March, a pilot was killed when the Cessna he was flying to carry out low-level geographical surveys crashed in dense bushland, 120km west of Norseman.
