EMERGENCY services have shut down Leith Walk in Edinburgh following the collapse of a crane.
Pictures and video circulating online appeared to show the long arm of a large yellow crane on a row of flats under construction.
People near the incident described it as if there had "been an earthquake".
Police Scotland said: "There are road closures in place at Leith Walk and Pilrig Street.
"Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area."
There are reports that the crane collapsed due to malfunction while driver was inside cabin, however this has not been verified by emergency services.
The Scottish Ambulance Service has said one person has been transported to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Reports have also suggested the crane driver was one of two treated for injuries at the scene.
Podiatrist Sara Henderson, 49, who works at the NHS clinic opposite, said one worker had a "lucky escape".
The site is being developed into more than 140 "high-quality apartments", including 38 earmarked for affordable housing.
Graeme Veitch, who runs a shop in the Red Sandstone building near the site, said the area "physically shook" after the impact.
He said: "There was this almighty thud, it was the strangest thing.
"All you can see is that the crane has toppled. The top of the crane has toppled over as opposed to the whole thing.
"We don't know when we'll get back in, the entire street is closed."
