Emergency crews race to busy Edinburgh hotel as eight guests 'trapped' inside

Emergency crews raced to an Edinburgh hotel this morning after eight guests were 'trapped' in a lift.

One Scottish Fire and Rescue team and two ambulances were sent to the Voco hotel on Torphichen Street on Monday, June 5 at around 8am after being alerted to the incident.

It is believed the eight people were trapped between the fourth and fifth floor of the hotel this morning, according to reports on Edinburgh Live.

An image from the scene shows one fire appliance and two ambulances sitting stationery at the front the hotel as firefighters are spotted scrambling to the incident.

A bystander commented: "I was just on my way to work when I turned the corner and saw two ambulances and a fire engine outside the hotel.

"It looked like some sort of medical emergency. There were also two firefighters standing at the side of the road looking up at the building. I hope everyone involved is ok."

A spokesperson for the SFRS confirmed that all eight people were quickly freed upon their arrival and they were able to leave 15 minutes later. No one was injured in the incident.
