An emergency bushfire warning has been downgraded to a watch and act alert for people travelling along parts of Western Australia's Goldfields Highway between Kalgoorlie and Menzies.
The warning for the Comet Vale area in the shire of Menzies was issued by WA's Parks and Wildlife Service early on Tuesday after the fire crossed the highway.
The parks service said there had been a reduction in fire behaviour and it was now stationary but still uncontrolled and drivers were being urged to avoid the area.
The Goldfields Highway has been closed from north of Kalgoorlie through to Menzies.
The parks service is managing the fire that was reported on Monday afternoon and is believed to have been sparked by lightning.
A bushfire watch and act alert is also in place for campgrounds between Bruboodjoo and Yardi Creek along the Ningaloo coast in the WA shire of Exmouth.
"Campers should stay at their campsites and move to the beach if the fire approaches," the Emergency WA alert says.
The fire, also sparked by lightning, was uncontrolled and posed a possible threat to lives and homes.
