EMERGE Belfast: Road closures and traffic advice for new two-day festival

Northern Ireland has been graced with a bumper summer of music as festivals such as Live at Botanic Gardens, Belsonic and CHSq have brought the buzz to Belfast.

EMERGE is set to end festival season with a bang as 40,000 fans flood to South Belfast this Bank Holiday weekend.

The new two-day, multi-stage festival is the largest event of its kind in Ireland and is bringing some massive names in dance and electronic music to the Boucher Road Playing Fields on August 27 and 28.

The PSNI has issued some advice for concert-goers about traffic and travel to and from the concert.

Superintendent Gerard Pollock said: “This weekend marks the last big weekend of a bumper summer of concerts in Belfast. Police have been working in partnership with event organisers and various agencies in planning for the Custom House Square and Emerge concerts.

"I want to see concertgoers this weekend enjoy themselves while also obeying the law, acting responsibly and staying safe. I would urge everyone to plan ahead and think how they will get there and get home safe. If you are attending Emerge on Boucher Playing Fields, there will be road and lane closures in place on Boucher road from 3pm.

“Later in the evening, Stockmans Lane will be closed after the concert until midnight, so if you’re planning on getting a lift home after the concert please make arrangements away from Stockmans Lane or Boucher Road as you will not be able to be collected on these roads until after midnight.

“I would also advise parents and friends collecting concert goers to be advised you will not be able access to Stockmans Lane or Boucher Road later in the evening to ensure the safe exit of people from the venue.

"I would ask everyone attending the concert to be respectful to local residents when attending and leaving the concerts; I want everyone attending the concert to have a great night, to stay safe, and remember the event for all the right reasons."
