"Embarrassing s***bags" - Man Utd fans leave sign for players outside of training

A sign that reads "embarrassing s***bags" and "get out of our club" was reportedly left outside Manchester United's Carrington training ground on Monday morning.

It's believed the sign was directed at United's struggling squad, who suffered a 1-0 defeat to relegation candidates Everton on Saturday afternoon. The result leaves Ralf Rangnick's side seventh in the Premier League - six points behind Tottenham in fourth.

Saturday's game was overshadowed by the actions of Cristiano Ronaldo, who was filmed smashing a phone out of a fan's hand at full-time. The Everton supporter has since been named as Jake Harding, a 14-year-old boy who has autism and dyspraxia.

United are on course to qualify for the Europa Conference League, UEFA's new tertiary competition that started this season. Seventh will not even be enough for European football if Crystal Palace stun Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City to win the FA Cup.

It's been a horrible season for the Red Devils. They sacked manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November after a 4-1 away defeat to struggling Watford. That result followed embarrassing defeats to bitter rivals Liverpool and Man City at Old Trafford.

United also failed to make any headway in the cup competitions. They were dumped out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough, while West Ham won at Old Trafford in the EFL Cup. They reached the last 16 of the Champions League, losing to Atletico Madrid.

Speaking after United's 4-1 away defeat to Man City in March, former captain Roy Keane claimed the club needs a clear out of players this summer. "There were five or six players there who should never play for Man Utd again," he told Sky Sports.

"It was shameful. They're so far behind the other teams. You hear noises all the time about things going on in the dressing room with a new manager coming in, but your own bit of pride eventually has to kick in at some stage. It was men vs boys as the old saying goes. They gave up and shame on them."

Several players are expected to leave Old Trafford. Lee Grant, Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard are all out contract in June. Ronaldo, Nemanja Matic, Fred, Diogo Dalot and Tahith Chong all have just 14 months left on their deals.

"The ones you keep are [David] De Gea, you keep [Raphael] Varane," Darren Bent told talkSPORT when asked which players United should keep. "You need a new right-back, I think. I don’t think [Scott] McTominay is good enough but he’s own of your own.

"Building-wise? Nope. I think Fred is a weird one because you have to say he’s been one in the last few weeks who has gone, 'you know what? I’m up for this'. But I guess if you’re trying to start against and build a successful side, he might have to go.

"You keep [Jadon] Sancho. Ronaldo has got to go. Cavani has got to go. [Anthony] Martial has got to go. [Marcus] Rashford is the one where, if the new manager fancies him, there’s something there. If he can get that best out of him then you keep him because he’s young.

"Pogba is going to go anyway, he’s on a free at the end of the season. If Man Utd have got any kind of aspirations [he should go]. I love Pogba as a player, I really do, but Man Utd fans are becoming sick of saying, 'We're waiting for that consistency', so he'd have to go."
