Elton John fans in Sunderland are counting down the days until the music icon comes to the Stadium of Light this Sunday, 19 June, as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.
The mammoth tour began back in September 2018 and will see the star perform more than 300 concerts around the world before it’s due to wrap up in July 2023. Sunderland is one of nine UK locations Elton is set to play at this year, kicking things off in Norwich and visiting Liverpool before heading to the Stadium of Light.
There is no support act lined up to support Elton, giving the singer time to treat fans to plenty of his biggest hits from across the decades. While the setlist for Sunderland hasn’t been confirmed, the songs played at previous stops on the Farewell tour give some indication as to what Wearside fans can expect.

On the North America leg of his tour which began earlier this year, Elton performed more than 20 songs to his adoring fans at each show. According to NME the star opened with 1973 hit Bennie and the Jets and closed the main set with Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting when he played in New Orleans back in January.
Elton went on to belt out Your Song and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in the encore at the New Orleans gig - his first show on the tour since before the pandemic. The setlist also contained classics like Rocket Man, Candle in the Wind and I’m Still Standing.

While this line-up may change when Elton visits Sunderland this weekend, it gives fans an idea as to what songs they may be singing along to at the Stadium of Light.
