Elton John looked frail as he arrived at Leipzig Airport in Germany in a wheelchair on Sunday, after performing as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
The singer, 75, revealed back in November he is "in pain most of the time" after he fell "awkwardly on a hard surface" and hurt his hip last summer.
Elton said he is unable to get in and out of a car or move sideways, and was pictured being assisted into a wheelchair from his vehicle as he arrived for his flight home to Nice last weekend.
He said last year of his injury: "At the end of my summer break I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since.
"Despite intensive physio and specialist treatment, the pain has continued to get worse and is leading to increasing difficulties moving."
And it appears Elton is still suffering from mobility issues which caused him to postpone his tour last October as he wasn't "100 percent fit".
He told Lorraine of not having made a full recovery late last year: "I wouldn’t be 100 percent fit - I wouldn’t be 100 percent confident because I’m in pain most of the time.
"I can’t move sideways, I can’t get in and out of a car. I don’t know, with a year and a half of touring, how long my hip would last - it probably wouldn’t."
"The decision had to be made because I wouldn't want to go on stage and give less than 100 percent."
Elton has been pictured in a wheelchair in previous years.
Back in 2019, the music legend revealed he was using a wheelchair after suffering a sprained ankle.
He told fans at the time as he visited the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy: "Not even a sprained ankle could keep me away from seeing one one of the most beautiful museums in the world."
He was also pictured in 2015 using one for a family day out at Disneyland.
Elton has previously spoken about his hopes of slowing down to spend more time with his two sons Elijah, 9, and Zachary, 11,and husband David Furnish.
In 2018, Elton announced he was ready to say goodbye to the touring as he 'had enough' of it.
He said on This Morning : "I'm looking forward to saying goodbye. It's not a publicity stunt because I am saying goodbye to touring, I've had enough."
The singer has a chequered health history as he was also forced to cancel his Texas show in January last year after testing positive for coronavirus. But thankfully, Elton only experienced mild symptoms.
In 2017, the music legend had a terrifying brush with death after contracting a "rare and potentially deadly" infection and falling seriously ill on a long haul flight - before hero medics saved his life.
Elton was rushed to hospital after becoming “violently ill” on a flight home to the UK from Chile.
He spent two nights being cared for in intensive care and 12 days in hospital while battling the "harmful and unusual" bacterial infection, contracted during his recent tour of South America.
That same year, Elton was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
He was fortunate that doctors caught the cancer early and Elton opted for surgery over a course of radiation and chemotherapy.
Unfortunately, this left him incontinent and crippled with pain after a complication following the surgery.
Despite his health woes, Elton shows no signs of slowing down over the next few months as not only will he perform for Her Majesty's Jubilee, but he will continue to tour in June.
Dates include shows for his Farewell tour in Switzerland, Denmark, Netherlands and France.
